It seems a little late now, but I still thought it deserves to be shared. I ran into the Bolero Biodiesel a few months ago (as in saw it parked outside a Maruti dealership, and recognized it from the green paint scheme) close to where I live. The company test driver was more than happy to talk about the car. The car was on a 100,000 km long test.
As far as fuel economy is concerned the car was then giving a 14 kmpl on a regular basis. There was not much difference in the performance of the car compared to the diesel. Not many modifications were required to make the car run on the new fuel.
It has been a long time since then, and the one lakh km test has probably finished too. Whatever has happened to the car I can’t say. It is however nice to know that even Indian companies are looking at alternative fuels, and not just the global majors. Mahindra also had showcased the fuel cell powered Scorpio at the Auto Expo 2006.
